Description
Moat Farmhouse is a building used as offices, dating from the mid-18th century with later alterations to an older structure. The front range is constructed of red and vitreous brick, featuring three bays to the right with red headers and paired vertical strips of blue headers between the windows. It has a 20th-century tile roof and brick chimneys located on the gables and to the right of center. The building is two storeys high with five bays. The windows are wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars, and the ground floor openings have cambered heads. There is a half-glazed door in the second bay, while the right gable has a blocked round window. The rear of the building has a canted projection made of thin brick, which may have once been a chimney, along with later extensions. Inside, the original rear wall is preserved, showcasing heavy close-studded timber framing and a doorway with a hollow chamfered four-centred arch. A lower range to the northwest, also rebuilt in brick, features a central chimney and a queen strut truss. The farmhouse is situated on a moated site that is believed to have once been the location of a priory or nunnery.
