Description
Bridgewater Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, which was extended and refronted in the late 18th century, with later alterations. The front is made of red and vitreous brick, featuring a plain plinth and off-set eaves. It has a 20th-century tile roof and brick chimneys on the left and rear right. The building is one storey and attic high, with three bays. The windows are three-light barred wooden casements; those on the ground floor have cambered heads, while those on the first floor are set in large gabled dormers. The central bay features stone and brick steps leading up to an altered door, which is top-lit and set in a recess with a cambered head. A water pump in wooden casing is attached to the left side of the front wall. There are later extensions at the rear. Inside, the left bays have timber framing with heavy curved braces, and the central truss includes braces to the tie beam and collar, with similar wind-braces. The ground floor room on the left contains an early 17th-century moulded spine beam.
