Description

The Town Hall, formerly known as the Old Court House and Market, is a parish hall that was originally built in the 16th to 17th century. It has been mostly rebuilt in the early to mid-19th century and restored in the 20th century. The ground floor features roughcast, while the first floor is timber framed with herringbone brick infill and jetties out at the front on shaped stone brackets. The building has a 20th-century tile roof with flanking brick chimneys that have square shafts set diagonally, two on the left and three on the right. It is 1½ storeys high and consists of five bays.

The ground floor includes barred sash windows, with a five-pane window on the left and paired windows on the right, while the central bays have paired and single sashes in canted bay windows. Tall narrow sashes flank a central door that is set in a pointed arch. The sashes in the right bay have four-centred heads and a stone Tudor hoodmould. The first floor features gabled semi-dormers with cusped bargeboards and finials, along with tall arched sash windows that have arched lights. The gables and the rear of the building are made of brick, with the rear containing 18th and 19th-century extensions.
