2. A timber framed building of early to mid C16 origin with alteration in the C17 and refacing in the late C18. Extensions to the rear C19. 2 storeys and attic, modern shop front and rough cast 1st floor; moulded cornice and blocking course. Steep pitched old tile roof. 3 broadly spaced windows to 1st floor, 2 casements and a sash in flush architrave surrounds. 3 box dormers. The encased timber frame structure is 4 bays long with jettied 1st floor (concealed). Chamfered oak beams on ground floor and C17 moulded plaster work encasing ceiling beams of ground floor in No 55. Framework exposed on 1st floor, originally formed of 2 rooms spanned by open trusses and divided by a closed truss and partition across the centre with heavy curved braces. Attics inserted probably in late C17. Former rear wall retains a large window with diamond set oak mullions. Clasped roof with wind braces. 2 storey gabled rear wing probably C17.
