Description
Nos 57 and 59 High Street are a pair of buildings dating from around 1820 to 1830, which have been restored. They are constructed of yellow brick and feature a hipped slate roof. The buildings are three storeys high with a symmetrical front. The first and second floors have four plain pilasters with raised brick capitals and a central vertical narrow recess. There is a stuccoed floor band, and the windows are replacement 8/8-pane sash windows with gauged brick lintels. The eaves are deep and plain. The ground floor has been restored in banded stucco, featuring a central arched door and outer flat-arched shop windows. Behind the facade, the structure is entirely timber-framed with brick infill, representing an interesting late example of this construction technique. The top floor of the rear elevation is tile hung.
