Description
The Paddocks is a house located on Chelmsford Road in Hatfield Heath, dating from the early 15th century. It features a timber frame with plaster and gabled roofs covered in peg tiles. The building has an 'L' shaped plan, which includes a large two-storey 20th-century rear extension and a garage block, all topped with peg tile roofs. The front of the house has an off-centre ridge line stack and a 20th-century open gabled porch. The windows are small pane casements, also from the 20th century. The rear wing includes a single-storey block with a peg tiled roof and an en-entrant gabled porch. Originally, this was an open hall house with a narrow, formerly gabled, high-end crosswing at the west end, along with in-line service rooms and a two-bay hall. The floor joists feature soffit tenons and halved and bridled scarf joints in the top plate.
