Description
The Headmaster's House at Felsted School, built around 1867 by F. Chancellor, is a three-storey building located next to the main school building on the left. It features a gabled crosswing on the left and a single-storey extension on the right. The house has a grey slate roof with stone parapets at the gable ends and decorative rafter feet. Constructed from red brick, it includes black brick ornamentation and diapering. The building generally has a 1:3 window range, with a gabled dormer. The crosswing gable is adorned with stone heads, cills, and stone dressings, while all windows are fitted with brick relieving arches. Most windows consist of three lights with two panes, one window has two quatrefoil lights, and three windows have two lights. A brick porch is topped by a pedimented stone featuring a carved Coat of Arms, along with a stone drip hood and stone dressing around the opening. The arched door head includes a foliated tympanum. The house also has crenellated iron rainwater heads and eight decorative iron louvres. The right extension, which has a grey slate roof, features a two-window range and an angled bay with windows facing the School Tower. The window surrounds in this extension have stone shafts with moulded bases and foliated capitals, along with a decorative stone band. The main building is capped with two symmetrically placed red brick chimneystacks.
