Description
Manwood Farmhouse, formerly known as Manwood Green Farmhouse, is a house that dates back to around 1620. It was originally a farmhouse and features a timber frame with plaster and gabled peg tile roofs. The building has two storeys with attics, along with a one-storey gabled block at the east end and a three-storey stair tower at the west end of the rear elevation. Between these two sections is a lean-to with a catslide roof. The layout follows a baffle-entry plan, with an off-centre ridgeline and a contemporary diagonal shafted stack positioned over the former front door.
The south front displays three flush gables, with 20th-century leaded light casements. The middle gable has an older iron leaded light casement. The rear of the house features 20th-century casement windows with small panes. Inside, the typical three-bay house reveals its timber frame, showcasing halved and bladed scarf joints, square joists, and stop-chamfered spine beams. There are large back-to-back inglenook fireplaces in both the hall and parlour.
