Description
This is an early 19th century terrace of eight cottages, forming a continuous block along the south side of Church End in Great Dunmow. The buildings are timber-framed and have been rendered with plaster, featuring a gabled roof covered in peg tiles. Each cottage has eight party wall chimney stacks running along the ridge line. Originally, each unit had a square double-hung sash window on the first floor, with a moulded surround, over a similar window on the ground floor. A simple hooded surround was originally present on the doors. Unit 4 now has a two-light casement window where the double-hung sash would have been. Cottages 2 and 12 have 20th century doors and windows. Fragments of ashlar stone are visible within the plasterwork.
