Description
18 and 20 Church End are a pair of houses dating from the 16th century, 18th century, and later. They are timber framed and plastered, forming a complex group of buildings. The structure includes a single-storey range that runs parallel to the street, a projecting single-storey block with two parallel ridges, and a two-storey block at the eastern end featuring a gambrel peg tile roof. At the rear, there is a two-storey block with a half-hipped peg tile roof. The front single-storey block has a peg tile roof that connects to the other structures and is topped with two very tall 18th-century chimney stacks. Another stack is located at the north end of the eastern block. The rear block has white weatherboarding on its eastern facade. The windows are a mix of 20th-century casements, some of which are aluminium, and there is a 20th-century extension on the eastern end. Inside the single-storey block, there is a substantial timber frame, jowled posts, and a heavily soot-blackened simple collar rafter roof. The buildings are included primarily for their group value.
