Description
28, 30, and 32 Church Street are a terrace of cottages dating from the late 15th century, 17th century, and early 19th century. The front range consists of a two-storey timber-framed and rendered block with a slate gabled roof. At the rear of numbers 30 and 32, there are two gabled blocks with peg tiles, also two storeys high, positioned at right angles to the front. Number 28 features double hung sash windows with small panes on each floor, and on the ground floor, there is a simple pilastered early 19th-century door surround with a flat hood. A date plaque near the eaves shows the initials 'T.B.' and the year 1845, indicating a significant remodelling. Number 30 has a double hung sash window with a moulded surround and small panes above a larger, similar window, along with a doorcase that has a scroll-bracketed flat hood. Number 32 has one double hung sash window with a moulded surround and small panes above a similar doorcase. The interiors reveal a 'long-wall-jetty' house with substantial moulded timber framing, with each cottage occupying one bay of the structure. The rear peg-tile roofed block features 17th-century timber framing and forms a square block of two parallel ranges. This building may have been a former public house.
