Description
The granary and cart lodge, built around 1800, is located about 90 metres north-northwest of Wix Abbey. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a brick plinth, topped with a gambrel half-hipped roof covered in corrugated asbestos sheets. The building has a rectangular plan, with four of its seven bays open at the front for carts or implements. Above these bays is a granary that has external stairs leading to a first-floor doorway at the right (east) end.
The structure stands two storeys tall, with the second, third, fourth, and fifth bays open at the front, supported by timber posts that have small curved braces at the top. The gambrel roof includes seven roof lights. Inside, partition posts add long curved braces to the wall posts that separate each bay and support the tie beams, which hold the joists of the granary above in the collared gambrel roof.
