Description

No. 17 King's Head Street is a house dating from the late 18th century. It has a timber-framed structure that is rendered, topped with a gabled plain clay tile roof. The building stands two storeys high with an attic storey and features a two-storey gabled rear extension that includes a stair tower, all clad in black weatherboarding. A lean-to dormer with a Welsh slate roof contains two-light casements with a cross glazing pattern, positioned on the front wall plate.

On the first floor, there is a flush double-hung sash window with two vertical glazing bars, and a painted timber fascia board runs along the first-floor level. The ground floor also features a flush double-hung sash window with two vertical glazing bars, along with a 20th-century door that has a rectangular fanlight above it.

Inside, some of the framing is exposed, and on the first floor, there is an internal straight wall brace on the front wall. The southeast flank has wall studs dating from around 1600, which include a former window opening with two small rectangular mullion mortices. The staircase at the rear is of tight winder form and features a Chinese Chippendale handrail, which has been partially renewed, along with a continuous curved soffit. There is also some stonework in the cellar, particularly flanking No. 16.
