Description
This building in Clacton-on-Sea, comprising Crown Top Hairdressers, Page Estate Agents, and Rewards Restaurant, is a group value building of early origin. It forms the north-western range of a building formerly part of a house opposite the Churchyard, known as "The Maltings". The building also incorporates the left return in Old Road. The structure dates to the 17th or 18th century, or possibly earlier, with later alterations. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a red plain tiled roof that is hipped to the left and has a parapet verge to the right. No chimneys are visible from the street. The building is L-shaped, two storeys high and features four small-paned vertically sliding sash windows on the first floor. On the ground floor are three 20th-century shop window oriels alternating with three 20th-century doors, each with a small-paned light above.
