Description
The Maltings and shop on the corner of St. John's Road in Great Clacton is a building that dates from the 17th to 18th century, with later alterations. Originally a house, it now functions as a house and shop. The structure is timber framed and plastered, topped with a hipped roof covered in red plain tiles featuring darker red diapering. There are red brick chimney stacks located off centre to the right and rear left.
The building is two storeys high and has an L-shaped plan with a right return to St. John's Road. The house is situated to the left, with end pilasters and additional pilasters to the left and right of the entrance door. The first floor features four small paned vertically sliding sash windows, while the ground floor has a similar window on the left. To the right, there are two 20th-century small paned shop window oriels, with a small paned shop door positioned between them. The house doorway on the left has a moulded surround, reveal panels, and a flat canopy supported by brackets. The entrance includes a four-panelled door with a fanlight above, which has glazing bars.
