Description
The wall enclosing the churchyard to the north and west of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, located adjacent to Little Wakering Road, is primarily constructed of ragstone with some early red brick repairs. It likely dates from the 16th century, with repairs from the 17th century and later. The wall features a stone coping. The north wall aligns with the old track leading to Little Wakering Hall and turns south to follow the line of Little Wakering Road. Ragstone walls are quite rare in Essex, and it is noted that a local farmer, Thomas Rawlings, was charged in 1574 with the theft of stone from the now-demolished north vestry, suggesting that the wall may have been built using stone from the vestry at that time.
