Description

This is a 19th-century horse trough and drinking fountain located on the pavement in front of number 87 on Rayleigh High Street. It is made of stone and features a curved trough supported by stone bases. One side of the trough is inscribed with "Metropolitan Drinking Fountain. Cattle Trough Association. Victoria Street." The north end of the trough is raised and curved, with a flat top and moulded edges. The north face includes a spout opening and an iron cup ring, along with a moulded semi-circular basin at the base that has a curved and moulded soffit and pendant.
