Description
This building was originally a butcher's shop and is located adjoining number 19 to the north on South Street in Tillingham. It dates from the 19th century and features a timber frame with weatherboarding and a red pantiled roof. The structure is single storey with a gable end facing the road, and the original shop front faces north into a courtyard. It has small paned shop windows with central mullions on either side of a central door. The door has vertical slats on the upper half and is fitted with four strap hinges on pightle hooks. Twisted S wrought iron brackets support a flat canopy above the entrance. To the right of the door is an iron hanging bar, and inside, spiked meat hooks remain attached to the rear wall. This building is an unusually complete example of a small 19th-century butcher's shop with its original fittings still intact.
