Description

The canal lock at the seaward end of the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of engineering brickwork and features substantial stone edge copings. The lock gates are replacements from the 20th century, and the basin has return flanks that are at right angles on the landward side.
