Description
Old Mill House is a house dating back to the 18th century, with a rear section from the 17th century and alterations and additions around 1830. The house is timber-framed and rendered, with hipped plain tile roofs. It has a T-plan shape, featuring a three-unit front range with back-to-back fireplaces and an off-centre entrance hall, and a rear wing flanked by later lean-to additions, with a central stack.
The front of the house has two storeys and a four-window range. A six-panel door sits centrally, above a Tuscan porch with a rectangular fanlight. There are 20-pane sashes in moulded architraves, along with sills. A ridge stack and an end stack are present on the right side. A 20-pane sash is located on the right flank, while a three-light casement is on the first floor and a French window is on the left flank. The rear of the house has a 16-pane sash on the left first floor, a three-light casement to the right, and a hipped roof over the left bay. The rear wing incorporates a French window and a 20th-century bow window, with two six-pane sashes above.
Inside, there is an open-well staircase with a ramped mahogany handrail, stick balusters, and wave-out tread ends. An end room on the left side contains a corner cupboard with a shell head and shaped shelves. The rear wing exhibits two bays of timber-framing, with a possible later addition at the end. Visible features include chamfered spine beams with step stops.
