Description

Ricketts Lock and Lock Gates are located on the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation and were built around 1797. The engineer was John Rennie, with supervision by Richard Coates. The structure features red brick walls topped with large granite coping stones and quoins. The lockgates are made of wood, with winding gear on the eastern gates and towpath winding gear on the western gates. There are four circular iron bollards on the north bank and one similar bollard on the south bank.
