Description
Little Baddow Lock, including the lock gates and four bollards on each tow path, is part of the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation and dates from around 1797. It was engineered by John Rennie, with supervision by Richard Coates. The structure is built of red brick in English Bond, featuring large granite coping stones and quoins. The wooden lock gates are equipped with iron hooks, chains, and winding gear. Each tow path has four plain 20th-century cast iron bollards. This lock is one of the original twelve locks on the navigation.
