Description
No. 15 High Street is a shop and offices dating from the early 19th century. The building is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a plain tile gambrel roof that has half-hipped ends.
It stands two storeys high with an attic and cellar, featuring a three-window range. The front has a timber-framed parapet and two segmental-headed dormers, each with small-paned sash windows. There is a painted timber moulded cornice above. On the first floor, there are two wide sash windows and one central narrow sash window, all with small panes and moulded surrounds. The ground floor features two modern tripartite fixed windows with small panes and a central doorcase that has a pediment, thin pilasters, and consoles. The door, which is modern, is framed by a broad moulded architrave and is accessed by a flight of two steps with cast-iron and wrought-iron handrails. The rendered plinth has two cellar openings, one of which is blocked.
At the rear, the building has two tall red-brick stacks and projecting cupboard extensions with lean-to roofs, as well as one lean-to dormer. Inside, there are two rooms on each floor, arranged around a central hall and staircase bay. The staircase is a contemporary dogleg design, featuring a column newel and stick balusters with moulded arrises that lead up to the attics. The first-floor rooms each have contemporary architraves and simple fire surrounds, with one room featuring a shouldered architrave. There are cupboards adjoining the rooms that have early 19th-century doors.
