Description
No. 47 High Street is a shop and offices dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a plain tile gambrel roof that features a stack near the north end. It has two storeys with attics, and includes two flat-roofed dormers with double-hung sashes; one dormer has small panes while the other has a single central vertical glazing bar. The building has a painted boarded parapet and a delicate painted timber cornice adorned with paired flat dentils.
On the first floor, there are two canted bays with double-hung sashes that have central vertical glazing bars, along with a similar central window that features coloured glass margins, flanked by thin attached columns. The ground floor boasts a high-quality full-width shopfront from the 19th century, which includes a fascia, consoles, and a combination of two wide and one narrow glass panes divided by column mullions with capitals, topped by a fan-decorated half arch. There is a recessed entrance, and some of the timber framing is exposed on the first floor, made from secondhand oak and softwood.
