Description
No. 76 on West Street is a house that dates back to the 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 19th century. The building features a timber frame, predominantly covered in weatherboarding, with some areas rendered in cement. The roof is made of handmade red clay tiles. It has four bays facing west, with the gable end positioned towards West Street, and an axial stack located one bay from the right end.
At the rear, there is a lean-to extension from the 18th or 19th century that runs the full length of the house, featuring a 19th-century stack and a roof that is partly covered with slate and partly with red clay pantiles. The house is one storey high with attics.
The front elevation includes one early 19th-century sash window with 4 + 8 lights, a small 20th-century casement window, and another 20th-century casement in the dormer of the lean-to. There are three boarded doors, two of which have some glazing. On the south elevation facing West Street, there is one 20th-century casement window on each floor and one plain boarded door. The Royal Commission on Historical Monuments noted that the stack previously had a moulded capping and plain pilasters on the shafts, which are no longer present.
