Description
This house, comprising numbers 10 and 12 West Street, is a timber-framed building dating to the 18th and 19th centuries. It has a roughcast rendered exterior and a roof of handmade red clay tiles. The main block consists of four bays facing south, with an internal stack located at the right end. A 19th century wing extends to the rear of the left end of the house, and a single-storey lean-to extension runs along the full rear length. The building is two storeys high and has attic space. The front features a three-window arrangement of 20th-century casement windows, and a 20th-century door. A moulded wooden eaves cornice is present. Inside, the house reveals jowled posts, extensive exposed timber framing, and chamfered transverse beams. Modern features include imitation Tudor doorheads, internal herringbone brick nogging, and carved woodwork. The stack at the right end also serves the adjacent property at number 8, Rose Briar Cottage.
