Description

The monument in the central square of Tollesbury was built in 1852. It is made of red brick laid in Flemish bond and features limestone tablets. The monument has a square plan, with a plinth, a plain cornice, and a domed head made of brick. On the north side, there is an inscription on a stone tablet that reads: "The Elysian Gardens planted in 1839 and this pile erected in commemoration of Nelson and Wellington by Captain Jeremiah Easter 1852." On the south side, another stone tablet bears the inscription: "Credito in Deo. That officer who erected this pile was present at the combats and battles at Alberche and Talaver in 1809 Busaco retirement Sobral and lines at Torres Vedras in 1810 Foz d'Arouce and Fuentes d'Onor in 1811."
