Description
This is a barn located approximately 30 metres south-west of Highlands Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century and extended in the 18th century. The barn is timber framed with walls made of weatherboards, corrugated iron, and some concrete, and it has a roof covered with corrugated iron. It consists of four bays aligned north-east to south-west, with a midstrey on the south-east side, and features a two-bay extension to the north-east from the 18th century. There are 19th and 20th-century farm buildings adjacent to it.
The original structure includes jowled posts, cranked primary bracing, heavy studding, and arched braces to the tiebeams, which have been replaced by bolted knees. Raking struts connect the tiebeams to the principal rafters, though some are missing. The north-east extension has unjowled posts and primary straight bracing. One bay at the south-west end retains the original butt-purlin roof with two purlins in each pitch, while the rest of the barn features clasped purlin construction. Additionally, the base of the north-west wall has been concreted.
