Description

Batt's Farmhouse is a house with a rear wing dating from the 17th century and a front range from the 18th century. It features red brick and red brick facing on the timber-framed rear wing, with red plain tiled roofs that are half hipped and gambrelled on the front range. There are external red brick chimney stacks on both sides. The house is two storeys tall and has a three-window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes, with gauged brick arches over the ground floor windows. The central entrance has a two-panel, two-light door, also with a gauged brick arch above, and is approached by two steps. The ground floor rear shows exposed timber framing with heavy bridging joists and wall studs. Inside, there is a repaired red brick fireplace and a brick floor. The 18th-century range includes two notable 19th-century cast iron fire surrounds. A complete moat surrounds the house to the southwest.
