Description

This is a range of barns dating from the late 18th century, located approximately 50 metres west of White House Farmhouse in Tollefshunt D'Arcy. The barns are timber framed and weatherboarded, with roofs covered in corrugated asbestos. There are two barns, each consisting of five bays and aligned north-south, with a midstrey on the eastern side. Originally separate, the barns are now connected by a short link, creating a continuous structure. Notable architectural features include primary straight bracing, face-halved and bladed scarfs in the wallplates, bolted knees to the tiebeams, and joggled butt-purlin roofs.
