Description

This barn, located approximately 40 metres east-north-east of Place House, dates from around 1800. It is timber framed and covered with weatherboarding, with a roof made of corrugated asbestos. The barn has five bays arranged in a northwest-southeast orientation, featuring a midstrey on the northeast side. There are lean-to extensions on either side of the midstrey and an open shelter along the southwest side, which has a corrugated iron roof. The walls exhibit primary straight bracing, face-halved and bladed scarfs in the wallplates, and hanging knees to the tiebeams, supporting a butt-purlin roof. This barn is part of a complete group of farm buildings within the village and represents a rare survival.
