Description

This barn, located 35 metres west-southwest of Gate Farmhouse, dates from the 18th century. It is timber framed and covered with weatherboarding, topped with a roof made of corrugated iron. The structure consists of five bays arranged in a north-northwest to south-southeast orientation, featuring a later midstrey to the east-north-east and lean-to extensions on either side. The barn exhibits primary straight bracing and bolted knees to the tiebeams. The wallplates have face-halved and bladed scarfs, and it has a clasped purlin roof. A red brick plinth in English bond supports the building. This barn is included for its group value with the nearby farmhouse.
