Description
This is a coal duty boundary post from 1862, cast by Henry Grissell. The post is made of cast iron and is situated on the roadside verge on the south side of Waltham Road. It features a square column with chamfered corners and a pyramidal top, all painted white. Below the pyramidal top, there is a necking with a shield that displays the City of London crest. The raised inscription on the column reads ‘4 & 25 VIC CAP 42’, which refers to the 1861 London Coal and Wine Duties Continuance Act. At ground level on the rear of the post, there is the maker's mark.
