Description
The Waltham Abbey coal duty boundary post, located south of Bumble's Green Lane, is a coal duty marker dating to 1864, cast by Henry Grissell.
This post is made of cast iron and is white painted. It features a square column with chamfered corners and a pyramidal top. Just below the top, there is a shield that displays the City of London crest. The raised inscription on the column reads ‘4 & 25 VICT CAP 42’, which refers to the 1861 London Coal and Wine Duties Continuance Act. At ground level, the post also bears the maker's mark.
