Description
This is a coal duty boundary post located on the south side of the footpath, approximately 150 meters west of Coleman’s Lane, dating from 1862 and cast by Henry Grissell. The post is made of cast iron and is white painted. It features a square column with chamfered corners and a pyramidal top. Just below the top, there is a shield that displays the City of London crest. The raised inscription on the column reads ‘4 & 25 VIC CAP 42’, which refers to the 1861 London Coal and Wine Duties Continuance Act. At ground level on the rear of the post, there is the maker's mark.
