Description

Mulberry House, formerly listed as the Rectory, is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a double range hipped roof covered with red plain tiles. The building has three storeys and cellars, along with a two-storey adjoining service wing, also in red brick with a hipped roof.

The house has a five-window range on the front, with original and 19th-century vertical sliding sash windows that include glazing bars and are topped with gauged brick arches. There is a parapet and a red brick band. A Doric porch enhances the entrance, featuring columns, pilasters, panelled reveals, a frieze with metopes and paterae, and a pediment above. The main entrance has a six-panelled door.

To the west, there is a small single-storey extension with a red brick bay window. The west front has a three-window range with 18th-century vertical sliding sashes, some of which have 20th-century decorative headboards. The rear features a simple pediment doorcase with pilasters, a vertical sliding sash window, and cill height doors below. The east front also includes a pedimented doorcase and a six-panelled door within panelled reveals.

The service range retains parts of an earlier structure and includes a re-used 17th-century leaded three-light window. Red brick chimneys are located on the centre wall. Inside, much of the original detailing remains intact, including doors, window shutters, fire surrounds, skirtings, and architraves.
