Description
This is a large house, formerly the Rectory, with a complex plan. It likely has a core dating back to the 17th century or earlier, but the majority of the visible structure is from the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The house is timber-framed and faced with red brick, and has hipped red-tiled roofs. It is two storeys high, with attics. The current main entrance is on the north side, featuring an 18th-century four-panel door with a fanlight above, and a 20th-century hipped porch with timber supports. There are ranges of 19th- and 20th-century vertically sliding sash windows, some with gauged brick arches.
The main south front has five bays, with the central bay projecting forward. A parapet runs along the top, with a band directly below. This front exhibits five small-paned vertically sliding sash windows, and three symmetrically placed segmental-headed dormers with small-paned sliding sashes. Stone capping is present on the parapet, and there are parapet verges. A central, elaborate pedimented door surround includes pilasters, a moulded frieze, and dentils to the pediment soffits. The door itself has a glazed margin window in the upper half. To the left of the central bay is a hipped projection with French windows and sidelights. To the right is a four-bay range ending in a hipped crosswing. Four red brick chimney stacks are visible on the main ranges. The interior retains good 18th-century features.
