Description
The School House, built in 1867, is a village school located in High Ongar. It features red brick construction with black brick string courses and a red plain tile roof, which includes a part crested ridge. The building has a 'T' shaped plan, with the schoolmaster's house at the southern end, which projects forward and has a higher, hipped roof facing north. The house has three-light casement windows, while the vertical sliding sashes are adorned with flat, two-centred arches made of varied-coloured brick. The north gable showcases paired three-light sashes with columns, moulded bases and capitals, and a recessed two-centred arch above. A central stone plaque is present, along with lean-to porches that have red plain tile roofs. The main entrance features a half-hipped design. The roof is detailed with bargeboards and sprockets, and there are gabled dormers and red brick chimneys.
