Description
This building is a house that dates back to the 15th century and was originally a hall house with crosswings. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, topped with a red plain tile roof. The structure has two storeys and attics, featuring jettied and gabled crosswings. There are four windows in a range of 19th-century casements. The crosswings are connected by a long wall jetty. A small early 19th-century shop with a grey slate lean-to roof now serves as the Post Office. There is also a gabled dormer and late 18th-century weatherboarding with bead moulding. The original open hall was virtually rebuilt in the late 15th century or early 16th century, and the west wing was extended in the 17th century. A large 16th-century red brick chimney stack with four octagonal shafts is a prominent feature. It is said that the east wing once contained the village lock-up from the 18th century.
