Description

Weald Place is a house from the mid-18th century that has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and has a slate roof. The building has a square plan and faces west, with a rear wing added in the 19th century. There is a single-storey bakehouse at the northeast corner, featuring an end stack roofed with handmade red clay tiles, and a lean-to extension beyond that is roofed with 19th-century red pantiles. Conservatories are located to the south and southeast.

The house has two storeys, a basement, and attics, accessed by six stone steps leading to a central six-panel door. The doorcase is adorned with wooden engaged Doric columns and an open pediment, and there is a fanlight above with radial tracery and garlands. The basement has four windows under segmental arches, two of which are blocked. The 18th-century double-hung sash windows, with 12 lights each, are located under flat arches of gauged brickwork, with two on each side of the door and five on the first floor. A string course runs above the upper windows, and there is a parapet with stone coping. The hipped roof features three flat-roofed dormers. The south elevation has scattered fenestration, including an early 19th-century bow double-hung sash window with 24 lights. Inside, the original staircase has a pine rail with two turned balusters on each step, and there is a panelled dado.
