Description

This is a mid-18th century house, altered in the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stone coping on the parapet, gables, and pediment, and a slated roof. The house has two storeys, a half-cellar, and attics. A symmetrical front elevation features an open pedimented doorcase with two wooden Doric columns on stone plinths, leading to a flight of seven stone steps and a four-panel door with round-headed lights in the upper panels and a fanlight above. The ground floor has two double-hung sash windows; the upper sash is divided by glazing bars into six lights, while the lower sash is undivided, both with flat arches of gauged brickwork. The first floor has three similar windows. A string course runs at the level of the base of the pediment. Inside the pediment are dentils and a roundel bearing the date 1898, representing the latest stage of exterior alterations. The house has three large red brick chimneys. Originally named "Isgoe" and located at Thornwood, "Esgors" dates from around 1750 and formerly had a frontage on the common but is now set back approximately 100 yards from the main road.
