Description
The barn at Brierly Hall Farm, dating from around 1700, is a timber-framed structure. It features three bays and has a projecting gabled porch at the central bay on the east side. The wall frame includes heavy studding, a continuous mid-rail, and arched wall braces. The wall plate is joined with a face-halved scarf joint. The barn has jowled end posts and jowled main posts supporting the tie beams, with later struts and tenoned braces, two of which have been replaced with knee braces. The roof is supported by curved wind braces that are tenoned to the purlins. The barn is part of a group value context with Brierley Hall and the garden wall to the east of Brierley Hall.
