Description

The barn at Brierly Hall Farm, dating from around 1700, is a timber-framed structure. It features three bays and has a projecting gabled porch at the central bay on the east side. The wall frame is constructed with heavy studding, a continuous mid-rail, and arched wall braces. The wall plate is joined with a face-halved scarf joint. The barn has jowled end posts and jowled main posts supporting the tie beams, with later struts and tenon braces, two of which have been replaced with knee braces. The roof includes curved wind braces that are tenoned to the purlins. This barn has group value with Brierley Hall and the garden wall located east of Brierley Hall.
