Description

Peartree Cottage is a house dated 1741, located on East Road, West Mersea. The two-story building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, distinguished by blue-glazed headers, a first-floor band, parapetted gables at both ends, and a ridged pegtiled roof. Two inset gable chimney stacks are present. The front door, located to the right of the centre, is a four-panel design with a leaded hood. Small-paned sash windows are found to the right of the door on the ground floor, beneath a straight gauged head, and centrally on the first floor, all with exposed boxes. The remaining windows are modern small-pane casements, with two on the first floor and two to the left of the door on the ground floor. Dormers with modern casements are set into the north slope. A single-story ridged extension is attached to the east side. Two plaques are affixed to the front wall, bearing the letters ‘TC’ and the date 1791.
