Description

The buildings at 6A and 6B Sir Isaac’s Walk date primarily to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The property includes The Scheregate. The building is two storeys high with attics and cellars, and has a tiled roof. It was built on the site of the old Town Wall.

The north front was substantially altered between the 18th and 19th centuries and rises to a parapet. The upper storey projects across the entire front, supported by curved brackets, and features a three-window range of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. Additions have been made to the west. To the east is the Scheregate, an entrance with a descending flight of steps, and the upper storey projects to the north. A small ground-floor shop is located immediately west of the steps. Possible remains of earlier structures may be incorporated within the foundations.
