Description

This is a mile-post located 15 metres south-west of the junction with St Peter's Road in Coggeshall, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape. One side facing northeast is embossed with 'Coggeshall 1', while the side facing northwest shows 'Braintree 7'. The inclined surface facing north has 'Coggeshall' embossed on it, and the vertical surface above displays 'Colchester 9', topped with a segmental head. The mile-post is mounted in the southern road verge, measuring 0.42 metres in width and standing 0.76 metres above the ground. It is also marked on the Ordnance Survey map.
