Description

The garden wall, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond. It runs approximately 95 metres from Church Street to the north-west corner of the Recreation Ground, with an obtuse angle located 35 metres from Church Street. The wall stands 2.28 metres high at the Church Street end and features a plain design that steps down with the gradient of the site. From the obtuse angle to the south-east end, there are seven piers and a double-chamfered plinth that rises 0.84 metres above ground level. Originally, the wall was finished with a brick on edge coping, but it was later raised by 0.43 metres from 8 metres south-east of the angle to the south-east end, where it concludes at a square pier that lacks a cap.
