Description
Brae Cottage is a 17th and 18th century cottage located on the north side of Colchester Road in Coggeshall. The building is timber-framed and has been plastered, with a roof covered in handmade red plain tiles. It originally had four bays facing south, with an axial chimney stack to the left of the centre and a 19th century external chimney stack at the right end. There are two catslide extensions to the rear, one roofed with plain tiles and the other with red clay pantiles. A weatherboarded lean-to is located at the rear left, roofed with corrugated iron. The cottage is one storey high with attics. It has three 20th century casement windows, and three more in slated dormers. A 20th century door is fitted, with a gabled canopy supported by brackets. The roof is half-hipped at both ends.
