Description
This is a wall that forms the south-east boundary of Church Street in Coggeshall, extending from the vehicle entrance of number 84 Church Street to the vehicle entrance of number 2 Church Green. It dates from the 18th century and is constructed of red bricks and lime mortar, featuring both English and Flemish bond patterns. The wall is approximately 60 metres long and varies in height from 2 metres at the north-east end to 3.50 metres at the south-west end. It has a chamfered plinth, with English bond used up to about 1.50 metres high, and Flemish bond above that, made with finer bricks. The top of the wall is finished with triangular coping bricks. Near the south-west end, there are two short sections that were raised by about 0.50 metre in the 19th century to create lean-to buildings on the south-east side.
