Description
Stanford House is a late 18th-century brick house, potentially incorporating earlier fabric. The front elevation features a parapet, slightly recessed above each window range, topped with a stone coping and cornice. The house is two storeys and has attics, with a four-window range arranged 3:1. A later extension on the north end is slightly recessed. Most windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, in plain reveals. The outer windows on the first storey of the original block are three-light mullioned and transomed casements with glazing bars. The ground storey has two three-light bow windows with cornices, and a central eight-panel door, the upper panels glazed. The doorcase has a plain architrave and a cornice supported by console brackets. The roof is tiled and hipped, with three flat-headed dormers. Inside, there is a panelled room on the ground storey and a linenfold oak panel dado. The listed buildings from number 24 to 56A on the east side form a group with numbers 37 to 89 (including numbers 57, 61, and 61A) on the west side.
